If you’re by a window right now, take a minute to glance outside. Do you see nature? Congrats! You probably feel happier than those of us with a view of an apartment balcony.
It’s really not that hard to believe. Researchers have known for years the positive effects of nature exposure. At Boxed Water™, we recognize the importance of our planet and have been committed to doing our part since our founding. That’s why, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, we’ve planted trees across the country since 2015, with the milestone of planting 1.5 million trees this year.
We know forests are essential for air purification, water filtration, and endless outdoor recreation, but we also recognize that not everyone has access to nature in the same way. If you were one of those people looking at an apartment balcony, we want to expand our planting efforts a little closer to you – we know you need it most.
We are proud to announce a new partnership with One Tree Planted and their Urban Forestry Action Fund, funding a diverse mix of urban forestry projects to help communities achieve tree equity.
One Tree Planted is a nonprofit organization on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Their projects span the globe and are done in partnership with local communities and knowledgeable experts to create an impact for nature, people, and wildlife.
Roughly 80% of the US lives in urban areas according to the 2020 US Census. With increasing weather extremes due to climate change, these areas need trees more than ever. Trees purify the air in polluted areas and reduce “heat islands” where temperatures are hotter in urban centers than their surrounding neighborhoods due to a lack of trees and green spaces. By partnering with One Tree Planted, we can help address these issues and make a positive impact in our communities.
Our efforts with One Tree Planted will kick off in April 2023, starting with a street tree planting project in the Bay Area, California. Within the next year, we will focus on multiple cities nationwide, including:
- San Francisco
- Los Angeles (Inglewood)
- New York City (Queens)
- Orlando (West Orlando)
- Boston (Chelsea)
Be on the lookout as we expand our efforts. We’re excited to contribute to the creation of more green spaces in cities while supporting local communities. Of course, you can keep us planting by simply posting a picture with Boxed Water and #BetterPlanet. Our tree-planting efforts are only growing!
